Public Policy

In April of 2008, Governor David A. Paterson issued Executive Order 2 establishing a State Energy Planning Board and authorizing the creation and implementation of a State Energy Plan.
"The goal of the planning process is to map the State’s energy future by showing how the State can ensure adequate supplies of power, reduce demand through new technologies and energy efficiency, preserve the environment, reduce dependence on imported gas and oil, stimulate economic growth, and preserve the individual welfare of New York citizens and energy users. To support the formal document that will be finalized in June 2009, numerous white papers, forecasts, and policy documents will be developed based on input from energy experts and concerned citizens. "
The development of the plan will be overseen by the Planning Board, with input from stakeholders, including ACE NY, and members of the public.
The planning board's meetings are open to the public and information is also made available through their website: www.nysenergyplan.com. Comments can also be submitted through the website.
A final energy plan is due June 30, 2009. Meanwhile, please refer to this page for updates and information regarding the Planning Board and its progress.
