Alliance for Clean Energy New York Cheers Governor Cuomo’s Commitment to GHG Reduction

ALBANY, NY (December 17, 2018) — In today’s speech at the New York City Bar Association in New York City entitled “What Would FDR Do?”, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his legislative priorities for 2019 including calling for a “Green New Deal” to address climate change and growing water quality issues.  The Governor called Climate Change a “life and death” situation that must be addressed by states like New York in the absence of federal leadership and committed New York to 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040.  In response to the speech, Anne Reynolds, Executive Director of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY) and Joe Martens, the Director of the New York Offshore Wind Alliance (NYOWA) released the following statement:

“The Governor’s ongoing commitment to reducing greenhouse gases and addressing climate change once again demonstrates New York’s leadership on critical environmental issues.   Climate change is indeed a 'life and death' situation and New York is leading by doing.  The renewable energy industry stands ready to help achieve 100% carbon-free electricity and put thousands of New Yorkers to work in the process.  We are pleased this issue is among the Governor’s legislative priorities and look forward to working with the Legislature on policies to grow the renewable energy industry in New York."
