Statement on New York’s Clean Energy Jobs

For Immediate Release

October 15, 2018

ALBANY, NY (October 15, 2018) — Yesterday, New York released their 2nd Annual New York Clean Energy Industry Report jobs report and announced $27.5 million to support clean energy workforce training. Anne Reynolds, Executive Director of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY) released the following statement:

“When the right policies are in place, companies will invest and create jobs. That’s why it is so rewarding to hear that clean energy jobs grew nearly 4% in New York – twice has much as other job types.  And, the $27.5 million for workforce development training should create new opportunities for technical training for important jobs like HVAC installer, wind turbine technicians, or solar installer. We hope many programs compete for these funds and this allows our member companies to find the skilled workers they need to grow.”

She continued, “We also applaud New York’s announcement that $40 million will be made available to encourage solar installations that also use energy storage. This change to NY-Sun will breed innovation and new project types that can help build resilience and reliability of the grid.”

These announcements, coming just days after our 2018 Fall Conference: From Policy to Projects: Putting New Yorkers to Work for Clean Energy, illustrate the great momentum of clean energy and the jobs benefits of forward-thinking clean energy policy.
